Salt Lake City, Utah, Sept 16, 2021 – The Open Source FPGA Foundation (OSFPGA Foundation), a non-profit organization focused on accelerating worldwide awareness and widespread adoption of FPGA technology, today announced that Flapmax, a startup building data analytics platform for AI acceleration, has joined as a community member. The OSFPGA Foundation is pleased to have Flapmax support its mission on the adoption and advancement of open-source FPGAs.
This collaboration will support Flapmax’s vision of bringing accelerated computing to more applications with versatile software and hardware integrated solutions. Open source FPGAs have enabled companies to improve agile prototyping of customizable FPGAs that is achieved through illustrative collaboration with different companies and strategic partners.
Hardware and software integration is both an industry-wide and a complex engineering effort, which could easily overwhelm the FPGA ecosystem with startups, established companies, academia, and R&D. Not only does the OSFPGA Foundation fill this gap by providing a host of open source FPGA technological materials for research and development, it goes further and brings together strategic industry players to aid the effort of raising awareness and knowledge around hardware and software integration. Flapmax is one of the strategic industry players that will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in hardware and software integration, with respect to FPGA technology.
Specifically, Flapmax will be pursuing two-fold interests: (1) accelerating the developer adoption of FPGA+AI in new and emerging application (e.g., large-scale scientific computing applications and edge computing) through the design of reference architectures, case studies, and HDKs/SDKs; (2) contributing to open-core hardware IP and open-sourcing some of the hardware IP core.
